Harry Truman was justified in dropping the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

ReplyDeleteI am torn on this subject because i can see both sides of this situation. The bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki killed thousands of civilians that had no direct impact on the war. While if we didnt bomb the Japanese we would have experienced a event worst then Iwo Jima. though the japanese committed terrible crimes like the bombing of pearl harbor doesnt mean we have too. I think we should have atleast asked Japan to surrender before we released the bomb
ReplyDeleteI agree to drop the bomb because if we don't we have to attack Japan straight on. Attacking straight on means more loss to people for the United States because Japanese military will defend their homeland furiously. Dropping the atomic bomb is quick and it means that less people will die on the US side.
ReplyDeletei both agree and disagree with harry trumans decision to drop the atomic bomb on hiroshima and nagasaki. it shows that the united states could defend itself. but the bomb also killed many innocent people that werent involved
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Harry Truman's decision because if he justified doping the bomb on Hiroshima & Nagasaki by saying that the Japanese would not have surrendered otherwise. I combat this statement by saying they could have done a demonstration in the ocean for example. Also, why did the US have to drop yet a second bomb on Nagasaki, just 3 days later. This i believe did not give the Japanese to assess the situation and ultimate surrender. I do agree with taking some sort of action, for if Harry S. Truman did not, the US would have been most likely defeated, invaded, and suffered many more casualties. Were the # of US causalities any more worth sparing than the thousands upon thousands of innocent Japanese people that died in the atomic bombings? I their lives worth anymore than ours? That is where, I believe, the real question lies. Who is to say that they wouldn't have done the same? If that is the case, then we should stand as a superior country with the ability to understand the value of lives all over the world.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Harry Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Drastic measured had to be made, however, because of the disaster at pearl harbor which enabled the attack on them. if we didnt attack them, the japanese would have continued to exploit indochina and their resources, which was obviously unethical and unacceptable. although, the united states "put japan in its place," it also killed many innocent lives in japan.
ReplyDeleteI do not think he was justified. What gives one person the right to kill millions of people who did nothing wrong. Although he believed that attacking Japan would lead to a lot o deaths he did not consider other options. He felt the only way Japan would surrender is seeing the power of the US. I think he could have dealt with this differently by holding peace talks or directing the bomb towards the army not a bunch of helpless civilians.
ReplyDeleteI believe he was justified because the US was struggling for power. Japan was a serious threat to the US power and Truman and to send them a message. With Japan's power, the only way Truman felt he could take them down was through 2 atomic bombs.
ReplyDeletei have a mixed opinion on this because in dropping the atomic bomb we killed thousands upon thousands of people in Japan. But if we did not do it, who knows what the Japanese would have done to us. I think that we may have done too big of a retaliation.
ReplyDeleteI think that dropping the bomb was completely wrong. We could have beaten Japan without the bomb, saving lives on many innocent Japanese. It was especially bad because, unlike a regular bomb, the atom leaves radiation, which still affects newborns in those cities even today
ReplyDeletei think that Truman believed it was the right thing to do at the time, but i think it was wrong. we could have come up with a better solution to our problems with Japan, instead of putting long lasting damage on their country. -Lauren Mittman
ReplyDeleteI agree with president Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If Truman had not used the atomic bomb, many more American soldiers would have died because the Japanese would have refused to surrender.
ReplyDeleteI agree with President Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If he had not used the atomic bomb, many more American soldiers would have died because the Japanese would have refused to surrender
ReplyDeleteIn some ways i agree with Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but in other ways i disagree. Although it did save many American soldiers, it killed thousands of innocent Japanese people. The bomb, however, did stop that war between each other, but there might have been other ways to make peace.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the dropping of the bomb because it did 2 things. 1: it showed that you CANT MESS WITH THE US. 2nd, it pretty much ended the war, and even though it killed thousands of people it was the right decision because it was essentially a statement made by the US, as well as showing how easily one air attack can end a war.
ReplyDeleteI agree with dropping the bomb because it stopped the war. the war needed to be stopped. i know it killed many japanese people but on the other hand, they also attacked us. So in a way it was revenge, but it also meant to not mess with the US.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the attack because we cannot allow to give other countries the impression that we can be easily attacked without an retaliation, for this reason i believe that the united states striking back sends a message that we are the most powerful nation and will not be taken advantage of
ReplyDeleteI believe Harry Trumans decision was incredibly risky. By bombing this area he thought he would accomplish things. For instance, an end to the war was one but did he also think about the loss of innocent lives. Overall, I think he analyzed this situation well and put enough thought into realizing he did save lives in the end.

I definitely believe Harry Truman was not justified in dropping the bomb because Truman had no right in killing a bunch of innocent Japanese lives. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, they attacked a Navy Base. When we choose to attack Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we basically choose to decimate a countless number of innocent lives.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki wasn't justified by the Pearl Harbor attack. The PH raid was an attack on a remote military base on the Hawaiian shore. The atomic bombs on Japan was an attack on two massive cities. This killed millions of Japanese civilians who had nothing to do with the war in the first place.

i say droping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the right thing to do and the act that any good president would do after the vicious attack on Pearl Harbor. If we didnt retaliate with greater force then we would make the U.S Defense look weak and brittle.

Though it killed many innocent people, I agree with Harry Truman's decision to drop the bomb on Japan. I believe that we had to show some power among the powerhouse countries that we would actually go through with our threats. Also I think we saved more american lives as a result of this bombing because Japan would've probably made more attacks, had we shown weakness by not retaliating for pearl harbor.

i agree with Harry Truman bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki because we had to show that we had power. Also it stopped the war and the war needed to be stopped or else many more innocent people would have lost there lives. Harry Truman needed to get his point across that he was going to show revenge. I also think that the US is the most powerful nation because of all they have done
ReplyDeletei think Harry Truman was right. The only way to really deal with situations of people challenging us in that way is to show them overwhelming power so that they cannot question whether or not they are defeated because leaving them to their own devices might cause something even worse than what they did in the past to occur
ReplyDeleteI agree with Harry Truman's actions of bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki because the Japanese bombed pearl harbor naval base and that was uncalled for. We needed to show Japan that we are a world power and nobody messes with AMERICA, Red , White, and Blue. We also needed to end the war with Japan. Also I think if we did not bomb Japan they would have kept bombing us and would have killed more US citizens.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Harry Truman's decision of bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki because we can not just stand there and get destroyed by the Japanese. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and resulted in the loss of many Americans. Even though i don't belive in fighting in some cases it is necessary to defend ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good strategy to drop the bomb. although it killed a lot of the enemies, it prevented deaths of Americans. to me it was sort of an "eye for an eye." if the Japanese want to play dirty and blindside us with bombs, we should fight back. If we didn't take these measures i think the Japanese would attempt to invade America.
ReplyDeletethere is no justification when someone kills a thousands of innocent unarmed people.
ReplyDeleteMost people are unaware that Japan was trying to surrender at the time the bomb was dropped. The only sticking point was that Japan wanted to keep the Emperor in a ceremonial role. The U.S. refused. We wanted an unconditional surrender regardless of how small or insignificant those conditions might be. Ironically, after the surrender we did allow them to retain the Emperor. There was no military reason to drop an atomic bomb, let alone two, on Japan. Those bombs were dropped out of curiosity and to impress the Soviets.
ReplyDeleteI should have said the main sticking point was retaining the emperor. There were a few other insignificant details.
ReplyDeleteI liked it so much and very interesting, too! Thanks for sharing the experience.
