  2. It is unacceptable to take away ones freedom of speech and press, it takes away the aspect of liberty and independence. When you take them away, a rebel will most probably result. This is similar to the Tennis Court Oath in France when the lower class wanted to draft a new constitution because their rights were unfair although, they were the majority of the population.

  3. There is and there isn't a good reason. Some might argue that it is a good reason to take away the people's freedom of speech because a ruler can then rule with virtually no opposition. On the other hand, in modern times, it is extremely unjust and unacceptable to totally take away a country's freedom of speech/press. Some examples of these governments include communists, fascists, socialists, and essentially a dictatorship. For example, if a government seizes the people's rights to free speech/press, they are taking away their ability to communicate with the government. Without communication, the rulers are forced to rely on what they think the country needs, rather than what the country actually needs. Ignoring the citizen's needs could ultimately result in political unrest and a possible upheaval. Some specific examples of this is when Mussolini came to power in Italy. Mussolini used his secret police, and the country's fear of communism to create a fascist state. He then continued to curb the freedom of press and prosecute any who were against him. The people under his rule hated him which therefore led to unrest and eventually upheaval. Another example in modern society (even in the US we have limited freedom of speech/press) we have certain laws that do limit our freedom of speech /pres like copy right laws and like how we can yell "fire" in a movie theater when there is no fire. In some cases there is good reasons, but always in moderation and never absolutely.

  4. I think that most of the time there isnt a good reason for freedom of speech and press to be taken away, but sometimes it may be necessary. If the ruler knows what is best for the country then he may need to work without the opposition of the people. other times the ruler may cause more damage then good and the people may help the country. Mussolini took away the citizens freedom of speech so that he could create a fascist state. in this case Mussolini turned his country into what he thought it should be, not what is necessarily best for it, proving that rulers do not always do what they should and that the people and heads alternately work together to create a succesful state.

  5. There is not one good reason to take away freedom of speech or press. But in times, dictators like Mussolini and Hitler took these freedoms away just for the use of propaganda. They took away these freedoms so their government would be feared by the people and everyone else. This is an unjust act by any government. But like any normal or current government, these rights are and probably will never be taken away.

  7. Normally, one's freedom of speech and press should never be taken away unless it's for the country's benefit or saving the country form terrible disaster. For Example, Hitler wanted to save the country and its people form suffering from the Great Depression. He took away these rights so there wouldn't be any parties or rebels that would fight against it. But I think overall, these basic rights should never be taken away from the people.

  8. Taking freedom of press, helps reduce revolutions. Freedom of speech just hides things until the problem explodes.
Hitler took freedom of press away, and put propaganda which got him much support.

  9. Freedom of speech should never be taken away but I can see how dictators like Hitler would want propaganda that helps him instead of hurting him. Freedom of speech is a sign of power for the one who beholds it.

  10. Freedom of speech should never be taken especially from the press because the press in what most people in the world get their information from. If the press isn't allowed to speak freely and truthfully, most people will fall victim of fascist leaders, such as Hitler. Hitler used propaganda to persuade people into thinking what he wanted them to believe. By limiting the freedom of speech of the press, Hitler was able to limit the spread of truth throughout Germany.

  11. Freedom of speech is an important way for everyone to be heard and for everyone to hear them. We need freedom of speech to communicate on a wilder level. If we did not have freedom of speech and a powerfully leader, like Hitler, comes to power, we have become vulerable under them, due to the inability to say what is happening and what we believe we should do about it. If we did not have freedom of press nor freedom of speech we would not know who, as indidviduals, should is right in our minds.

  12. never should ones freedom of speech be taken away. The only reason to take away freedom of speech/press is so that the goverment can control the community of people.Much like Hitler and Mussolini did when they became dictators. Freedom of speech/press is what we use to communicate the issues of the world and the country to each other.

  13. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press is very important in our society and it should never be taken away. Unfortunately, in other countries they do not have the rights that we have. We use freedom of speech to talk to our society openly. When Hitler was the leader in World War II, no one was allowed to have freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Their rights were taken away so people were not able to communicate openly with each other about what was going on.

  14. I believe that our freedom of speech is very important because people need to be able to state there opinion. Unfortunately, when hitler came into power people lost their freedom of speech and press and they weren't able to speak openly about how they felt. . We are very fortunate that we have that right to say what's on out minds and speak to the world without being told otherwise.

  15. The only reason to take away freedom of speech would be to control someone completely. If this is not your reason then there can't be a reason to take away freedom and speech and the press. Only a country of with a dictatorship or totalitarian state would use this and only if their afraid of the people's power.

  17. There is no good reason to take away freedom of speech and freedom of press. It has been done mostly in totalitarian states and in athoritarian states such as Nazi Germany and Russia. Pretty much the end results of these coutries did not turn out verry well. The only reason to take away freedom of speech and press would be so that no one bad mouths the government and no one turns people against the government. Most totalitarian states took away freedom of speech and press because they did not want a revolution and weak nationalism.

  18. there isn't a good reason to take away freedom of speech and freedom of press. people need rights and they need the ability to state their own opinion. when Hitler was the ruler in world war 2, people didn't have the right of freedom and speech. that lead to the persecution of millions of harmless people

  19. As John Stuart Mill once said, "The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error." If freedom of speech were taken away, then all the voices of prosperity and wealth in the world won't be herd and it is more likely that a tyrant can take over and lead to destructon of society. To create a stronger nation we need the world to work together, because not just one person can make decisions for everyone else. Fights are bound to break out because not everyone would agree with this one person. Hitler is a very good example because the Jews had no say, there was a berrier set between the Nazi's and Jew's that led to the death of many. - Amanda Allaf

  20. I think its never a good idea to take away freedom of speech or press because by banning something as vital as freedom of speech or press will just influence more people to break the law to say what they want. This also helps propaganda with is generally bad because propaganda has lead to many genocides such as the Holocost.

  21. Taking away freedom of speech is a terrible idea. When there is no freedom of speech the government controls the minds of the citizens. This allows the government to use as much propeganda as they want with out anyone providing another point of view.

  22. If freedom of speech/press are taken, a government becomes little more than a dictorship. If citizens cannot express and share their thoughts and ideas, improvement and change cannot occur in society and the country becomes a dictatorship. When Hilter took away freedom of speech, people who previously didnt even mind jews got caught up in the racism and either stood by or helped prosecute them.

  23. I beleive that taking awat the right of free speech is a way of manipulating us to a conformed society. If we were to listen to only government approved junk, society would become brainwashed. Not being able to voice our opinions would most likely turn into many rebellious groups and the country would be torn apart. It has happened in other countries and it never ended well. So therefore eliminating the right of free speech and free press would be a recepie for disaster. and that is my position.

  24. There is never a good reason to take away someone's freedom of speech. One of man's greatest ability is to be able to express exactly what they're thinking, and to use the media to express their opinions, concerns, and thoughts. Taking away one's freedom of speech will only cause them to revolt and fight for their unalienable rights as stated in the United States constitution.

  25. Taking away freedom of speech is wrong. It's our ability to identify ourselves as a common people rather than a single state or nation. It's our personal ability to have viewpoints and ideas rather than just a bland populace that walks blindly to one desired idea, whether they want to or not. It's seems unnatural not to be able to even voice your opinion, but many countries have outlawed freedom of speech, like China and many Middle Eastern countries. You may not agree with me but; as Voltaire once said,"I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." -David Amberg

  26. There is no valid reason to take away a man's freedom of speech. For starters, a man or woman needs to communicate with others, such as speaking against a corrupt government or against any leaders. Like in the book 1984, society is controlled by government in every aspect (totalitarian government) including the communication between people. In this society, the government cannot be overthrown because people cannot make a rebel group without communication. The ability to speak is a powerful thing because without it, people cannot voice their opinions and be different from others - Alex Magged

  27. Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press should never be taken away. All people have the right to say their thoughts and what they believe. Without it people can't fully express themselves and it is very hard for thoughts and ideas to be spread. Hitler took away Freedom of Speech and Press in order to keep the truth of what he was doing a secret. This helped lead to the death of millions.

  28. the freedom of speech and freedom of press are so vital to the survial of the community we built as a nation. as a world. there is NEVER a good reason to take away the right of voicing your opinion. everyone should be heard loud and clear, even if people disagree with them. many countries in the middle east right now, have not granted the freedom of speech and press, and you can see the troubles and the killings that go on in those countries because people want to voice their opinion, yet face death if they do. this is so unjust and immoral. everyone has the right to free speech. no matter what, there will and never has been a good reason to take it away.
